Cycling in South-West France: the Tarn

The Tarn by bike

The region offers about 25 sign-posted tours, with 4 difficulty level : easy family trips, challenging, experienced, and expert levels. The Tarn is excellent country for cycling, with splendid scenery: varied landscapes with soft slopes, meadows and sunflower fields, beautiful villages amidst the Gaillac vineyards, the Gresigne forest with interesting birds and wildlife, the walled medieval bastide towns near Albi, the Aveyron canyon.

Climbing here is not so hard, the Pyrenees are more than 100 km south; here the average climb or descent is between 100 to 350 meter, which is affordable for most cyclists. There is only local traffic on the small country roads, so you can easily plan other cycle trips than those that are signposted.

B&B in bastides and vineyards country

Two of the signposted tours pass at 500 yards from Artichaud, a charming Bed and Breakfast: C5 «Bastides and Vineyards» and C8 «Around the Gresigne forest and the Aveyron canyon». It is a comfortable place, with a nice garden and swimming pool. Our breakfast and gourmet dinner - both with organic food - will provide you with the calories needed for your cycling trip. And of course, after your effort you might deserve tasting the excellent Gaillac wine.

Your cycle can be parked safely in the courtyard of our eco-friendly guest house. You are welcome to consult our maps, and documentation; we will be pleased to help you in planning your day tours. Artichaud does not rent bicycles, as in nearby Gaillac you will find a good professional where bikes can be rented and - if needed – repaired.
