Visiting local markets in France is always a nice experience. In some regions- for exemple in the Provence - markets are intended in the first place to attract tourist. Here in Midi-Pyrénées (southwest of France), tourist-only markets are an exception, although in summer some local people will try to earn some money by selling souvenirs and gifts to foreign visitors.
In the immediate surroundings of our B & B in the Tarn, you will have the opportunity to see that local markets are the place were the inhabitants buy their daily needs: fruits, vegetables, meat and cheese, but also cloth, tools, living poultry, seeds, ... But above all: the marketplace is the spot where they meet their neigbours and friends, and perhaps, have a small coffee or an apéritif before going home. Because at one p.m., the markets close, customers as well as vendors go for lunch, and then afterwards a little siesta
Larger cities like Albi have a "marché couvert", which is open daily, even on sunday, but then they close mondays. In Gaillac the market is on friday; however there is a small organic "marché nocturne" on tuesday late afternoon. In the table below you'll see that every weekday you'll find a market in our area. If you are interested in special fairs, you'll find some interesting ones on our events calendar. And in spring and summer their are of course scores of "vide greniers", "foire à la brocante" and similar: information on these special markets is available in our Bed and Breakfast.
